Where did the Year Go?

Hello there. The year is almost over? When did that happen?
Anyway got a couple of updates for you. Here we go!

Congratulations to Sensei Katie and Sensei Brian!

You both did an amazing job and should be very proud. Keep setting a great example of what it means to be a BLACK BELT.

Congratulations to Sensei Tommy
and Sensei Scott!

These two hard working Black Belts got their Shodan (1st Degree) in Kumade Nobushi Kyokai.
And they're still looking for more. There is just no stopping them. I'm proud of you guys.

And Master Sparks received his Hachi-Dan
(8th Degree) in BOTH Fudoshin Kai and
Kumade Nobushi Kyokai! I just cant put into words how much Master Sparks has done for all of us and how much knowledge he has openly shared throughout the years. He truly is an awesome martial artist, amazing teacher, and most importantly a true friend to us all.

LONG LIVE THE KING!

Lastly I would like to thank ALL my students, those who made it to the party and those who could not, for the amazing gift you all got for me. It really does mean a lot to me. You all have no idea how much I care about each and everyone of you (and your families too). All I ever want is for all of you to be the best that you can be both inside the dojo and out. There is no other instructor who has better students/friends than me.
Thank You all very very much.
The party was a blast and there was so much that happened I wish I could mention it all. It just keeps getting better and better every year. The Nanticoke Dojo, the Mountaintop Dojo, and now the NEW Dallas Dojo! If it wasn't for the students we wouldn't be where we are today. Thank you all very much and have a safe and very happy holiday to you and all your family.

Master Duda and Sensei Toporcer
Caleb Diltz and Joshua Betz- Blue Belt
Say hello to our newest Blue Belts, Joshua Betz and Caleb Diltz. You both did fantastic! You're on your way to the big leagues. Green, Purple... next thing you know you'll be Black Belts! It's going to start getting harder now but if you both keep on working and doing as well as you are now, you'll both be kickin my butt real soon. Keep up the great work you guys. Awesome job!

Master Duda and Dan Ruckle- Aiki Jutsu Orange Belt

Also we have our very own Dan Ruckle getting his Aiki Jutsu Orange Belt. You did an excellent job during your test and you definitely are getting better and better with every class. You continue to put up with me yammering so you at least deserve an orange belt for that. You're becoming an excellent martial artist. Keep up the great work. Doing both the karate and the aiki are really helping you put everything together. Fantastic Job! : ) Eojsensei

Purple Belt

Chris Sicurella and Daniel Shires
(Master Gilbert, Sensei Kochan, Chris Sicurella, Sensei Vest, Daniel Shires, Master Duda)

You two did an amazing job! You really dug down deep and gave all that you had. That's what the test is all about. It was one of our last chances to really push you physically and bring out the attitude and confidence needed to go all the way in our system. You both had your ups and downs during the test and those are the things you should focus on and continue to improve. Many of the Masters and Sensei had great things to say about you, you really impressed everyone. You probably impressed yourselves too. You made it and it was all because you had the heart and drive not to give up. You should be very proud of yourselves. Keep it up!

Technique of the Week

Here are two quick Self Defense Techniques off a hook/roundhouse punch. Hopefully there will be many more to come. If anyone has any ideas for a technique speak up and let me know. I will try to mix it up and do different techniques every week. Hope you guys enjoy it. Thanks again to Dan Ruckle for being such a great uke. You make me look good man, and I need all the help I can get.

Self Defense- And the Winner is...

Katie Middaugh!
First Place in Self Defense at Grant's Tournament.

Excellent job Katie you did fantastic! I knew you would do great. You should be proud of the great job you did. I know that tournaments aren't your favorite things to do but you did it well. What made me especially proud (and it should have for you too) was when as a Brown Belt a Black Belt from another school was so impressed by your technique that he wanted to have you show it to him again. It just goes to show you how far you have come and how much talent that you have. I've said it before and I will continue to say it, our white belts have more self defense knowledge than many high ranking black belts in other schools. You should be proud of such a great job that you did. I know I am!

Women's Self Defense Seminar

Thanks again to all who attended Master Yurkin's seminar. I hope you learned some tips and techniques that could be of use if, god forbid, you ever find yourself in a situation that calls for you to defend yourself or those you care about. We hope to have more seminars and possibly a class dedicated to just Women's Self-Defense in the near future. So spread the word if you enjoyed the seminar as much as we enjoyed teaching it.

Try not to be so hard on Master Yurkin next time!
At least we know the techniques work. :) Eojsensei

We've Got Video!

Here is a quick sample clip of myself and Dan doing some self defense. It was made just to see how difficult it would be to do something like this. I hope to have many more in the future of KATA, SELF DEFENSE, WEAPONS, TESTS ETC. It's not the greatest but hopefully it will get better. I hope you like it. We will be signing autographs after class. HA HA
PG-13 This is a warning for some people that the music is a little "loud".

Yellow !!

Sensei Justin Toporcer, Joshua Betz, Caleb Diltz, Master Joe Duda

Congratulations to our two newest yellow belts! You both did really good! The tests keep getting harder and harder, but you keep getting better and better. Keep working hard and remember that you only get better by practicing what you're having trouble with. You both work really hard and it shows. Keep setting a good example for what it takes to be a great YELLOW BELT!

Test Time!

Sensei Justin Toporcer, BETH BARTUSKA(Orange Belt), Master Joe Duda
Way to go Beth! You did a fantastic job on your orange belt test. Keep up the great work and you'll be a black belt before you know it. Because you practice so well in class and pay attention your test was a piece of cake. Now its time to start working hard as a brand new Orange Belt. You did GREAT!

Sensei Justin Toporcer, DAN RUCKLE (Blue Belt), Master Joe Duda Excellent as always Dan! Like I said before you make my job easy. You work hard and give 100% all the time. Time to go crazy now, you're on your way to the big leagues. Now we start getting to the fun stuff. If you could put up with all my blabbing after class you can do anything. Keep on moving forward "one shovel at a time".

You both did great during your tests. The more you enjoy it, and the more you listen and work hard in class, the better you will become without even noticing it. Everybody, from white belt to 10th degree black belt should always look at each class as a test and always give 100%. Keep up the great work everyone! Eojsensei :)

Dummy In Action

Here are some clips of Wing Chun. The first one is of a form and some self defense applications. (It's in a different language so I don't know what he's saying, sorry) The second one is pretty much the same form but shown a little better. And the last one is about the history of wing chun and one of it's great masters Ip Chun. Hope you enjoy! I know I will be trying some of these moves out. :) Eojsensei

"Hey, Who's the Dummy?"

Look at the amazing addition to our dojo. It's a wing chun dummy! I always wanted one and now we have one thanks to our very own Dan Ruckle. He made this by hand! I cant believe all the hard work and long hours he put into making this. It turned out excellent! I am so thankful and grateful that he went through so much trouble. I know I'll have so much fun using it and maybe I'll let everyone else use it too... maybe. Thanks again Dan, who knew you could break things and build things with your hands. I'll try to put up some clips I can find about using it. Stay tuned. Eojsensei :)
